What foods are good for my skin?

Many of us reach for creams, lotions and serums to correct our skin concerns whilst there are some fantastic products around it is important to support your skin from the inside too. The key to healthy skin is a balance of nourishing our bodies, maintaining low levels of stress and using the right skincare products. But which foods are good for our skin?

Here are 5 good for skin foods to incorporate into your diet.

  1. Pumpkin

With autumn up on us there is no better time to incorporate Pumpkin into your diet, Pumpkins are packed with fruit enzymes, zinc and alpha hydroxy acids. Zinc is fantastic at regulating oil production, helping to keep pores clear and skin PH levels maintained.

  1. Berries

Just a handful of berries a day can work wonders, they are full of vitamin C and rich in antioxidants. Vitamin C helps to brighten the skin and boost the immune system which will help irritated skin repair. The antioxidant action will fight free radicals that cause the skin damage in the first place.

  1. Oily fish; Salmon, Mackerel, Sardines

These fish are high in Omega 3 fatty acids, having these in your diet will reduce inflammation in your skin, protect the skin against sun damage and give your skin a glowing appearance.

  1. Broccoli

Broccoli are a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C and the mineral Zinc but they also contain Lutein which protects your skin from oxidative stress which causes damage, lines and wrinkles. Some suggest Broccoli also helps with Collagen production which will keep your skin soft and bouncy.

  1. Sweet potatoes

Sweet potatoes are another great source of Vitamin A. They contain Beta-carotene which the body converts to Vitamin A, this vitamin is brilliant at fighting acne, breakouts and preventing lines and wrinkles in the skin.

Having a balanced diet full of nourishing foods will help you feel and look well, our skin will react to what we eat and drink but it will take time, eating a few berries and a glass of water will not give overnight results, but maintain a healthy diet and you will see the results with clearer, softer, younger looking skin.
